A little known organization introduced itself to the community on Saturday by hosting a free event at Ballard-Hudson Middle School.
Macon Promise Neighborhood welcomed people in Tatnall Heights and the Unionville area to its kick-off event. The seven month old organization is a US Department of Education initiative to improve the education of kids in the community. Project Manager, Ebony Harris said her organization wants to say hello to parents and the children they will work with to improve graduation rates.
"It's really about saying hello and introducing ourselves to the neighborhood because we will be in the schools, we will be working through our partners, so it's just kind of a very friendly way to introduce ourselves to the community,” Harris said.
Macon Promise Neighborhood works with 40 other local organizations and Harris said she hopes more will partner with it in the future.
