A strange form of a dangerous drug makes its first appearance in Middle Georgia and law enforcement is warning parents to be on the lookout for it.
Lamar County Sheriff, Brad White, can't help but be concerned about a new form of drug that has found its way into his county.
"This is the first time we've come across the pink crystal meth," White said.
Pink crystal methamphetamine that looks like a popular sweet.
"Crystal meth in its rare form looks like rock candy, just white rock candy and of course I guess if you add red or pink food coloring to it makes it like strawberry or pink rock candy," he said.
Investigators found the new form last week while executing a search warrant at a house on Pine Ridge Rd. Deputies arrested Ronnie Spence and Paul Justus on possession of methamphetamine, possession of a fire-arm by a convicted felon and possession of a drug related object. Investigators don't know where the drugs were made but they want people to be on the lookout for it.
"Now that it has reached Lamar County, we want the parents to know and be aware, and know that there are different forms of crystal methamphetamine and different colors," White said.
When Russell Parkerson heard about the new form of the drug, he couldn't help but think of his six-year-old daughter who might mistake it for candy.
"I don't want it to be around children and ya, that's a big concern,” Parkerson said. “I'm quite sure it's more wide spread than just Lamar County.”
While Parkerson is concerned, other parents are warning their kids that it’s in the area.
"I'm going to go home and talk to them about it when I leave here," parent Allen Caslin said.
White is unsure if there is more in the region but he wants parents to be aware of it.
"If they're walking down the street, see something, a bag that contains a pink crystal substance, that it may not be candy.”
White said the pink crystal meth doesn't do anything to dilute the drug. He said the regional narcotics unit will continue to be vigilant about the spread of the new form.
