NICU at the Coliseum Medical Center celebrates 24th birthday

NewsCentral Staff

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Coliseum Medical Center in Macon held its 24th annual birthday celebration on Saturday at Central City Park.

The annual event brings families together that had a newborn admitted into the N-I-C-U. Coliseum Medical Center sees about 150 newborns visit it each year and 95 percent of them survive. Dr. Mitch Rodriguez said the event allows families to relax after dealing with a stressful period in their lives.

"You know that there's always a risk and potential problems that may occur related to issues from the consequences related to being premature and it's always nice to see families come back that are doing fabulous and doing great," Coliseum Medical Center NICU Medical Director, Dr. Mitch Rodriguez said.

Most kids at the event were at one point in the NICU and Rodriguez said he and his staff enjoy seeing them grow up each year.
