NASCAR Driver Races In Cordele

NewsCentral Staff

A big name in the world of NASCAR makes an appearance this weekend at a Middle Georgia race track to fine tune his driving skills.

Driver of the number 34 stock car, David Ragan, raced in Speedfest 2013 at the Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele. The Unadilla native is gearing up for his upcoming season by racing against some of the nation's top short track drivers. More than 60 teams participated in 2 classes of racing to win some of the purse money worth $60,000. Ragan may be big time, but that doesn't stop him from coming back to Middle Georgia to relax with family and friends.

"It's always a lot of fun to get back home,” Ragan said. “I still consider this home but you know it's our off season for the NASCAR series and we start back racing in a few weeks. So this is kind of our last couple of weeks to go have some fun, go race, come back home, see everyone and try to knock the rust off."

Ragan will be heading to Daytona in February to kick off the NASCAR season. His first race will be the Sprint Unlimited.
