NAACP Inaugurates New Officers

NewsCentral Staff

New leadership is taking the reins at an important organization for many people living in Bibb County.

More than 20 new officers and executive committee members swore oaths for the Macon-Bibb branch of the NAACP on Saturday at The Greater Antioch Baptist Church. This is the first time in more than 10 years the ceremony has taken place in a church. The new president, Gwenette Westbrooks, said she wants her administration to unite with churches and community leaders to tackle social, economic and political issues in the area,

"We need to unite with our churches and other leaders to try to bring our community together,” she said.

The organization will have a general meeting in February at the Family Investment Center to discuss its agenda and upcoming plans.
