Montezuma Woman Charged with Lying about Finding Baby in Dumpster

NewsCentral Staff

A Montezuma woman faces up to 5 years behind bars for allegedly lying to police about finding a baby in a dumpster.

Montezuma Police say Alexis Boland faces one count of making a false police report. It comes after police received several calls and reports of a baby being found in a dumpster outside of a local restaurant.

Police say they questioned Boland about the incident and she initially denied the story, but later confessed to making the story up, saying she thought it would be funny to play a joke on a co-worker.

William Blakelon Coogle, an employee at a nearby /Subway, told WGXA, "We had probably 15 or 20 people come in the next day asking about it, and every single one of them had a different story about what happened."

If it was intended as a joke, the District Attorney's Office isn't laughing. Boland was arrested and charged with making a false statement to law enforcement, a crime which carries a jail sentence of one to five years.
