Middle Georgia Church Celebrates 175 Years

NewsCentral Staff

A Middle Georgia church hits a milestone while continuing to uphold principles set by its founders.

The First Baptist Church in Forsyth celebrated 175 years as a congregation on Sunday. The church started as a result of a faith crisis amongst Baptists in the early 1800's. More than 300 people showed up for the benchmark celebration that included speakers giving an in depth look about the church's roots and role in the community. The congregation continues to do missions not only in Georgia but around the world which has always been the goal of the founding members.

"175 years of mission and ministry, it will help to fan the flame of faith for 175 more years of mission and ministry," Pastor Darrell Watson said.

After the service, church members participated in a dish luncheon and looked at historical photos of the church as well as played trivia.
