Mercer basketball team to build homes in Africa

NewsCentral Staff

MACON, Ga. (AP) - The Mercer University women's basketball team will travel to Ghana this summer to immerse themselves in African culture and help build homes.

The team plans to collect donations to fund the $12,000 trip Feb. 9 during halftime of the men's game against North Florida at the Mercer University Center in Macon.

The service learning trip is part of the Mercer On Mission Program, which partners students with the Fuller Center For Housing and has sent volunteers to participate in projects in Peru, Armenia and India. The Fuller Center is a nonprofit Christian housing ministry.

The team is slated to visit the western African country between July 28 and Aug. 17.
