Meet the Family That Saved Christmas

NewsCentral Staff

On Christmas Eve, NewsCentral brought you the story of the Lancaster family - a grandmother in stage 4 of cancer who takes care of several grandchildren.

Santa, Kids Yule Love and the Georgia Ghostbusters made a visit to the Lancaster's bringing presents for the kids, but the real heroes that night weren't dressed as Santa nor were they donning Ghostbuster gear. The real heroes weren't even in the state; they were in Texas with their family.

Meet the real heroes - Ray and Marline McCord, the people that sponsored the Lancaster's Christmas and purchased the kids every single item on their wish lists.

A week before Christmas the two families met for the first time.

"She touches our heart very deeply. We went through this with two of my brothers 4 years ago I lost 2 of them within 2 months just before Christmas, so it strikes home for us." -Marline and Ray McCord/Christmas Sponsors

The McCords originally signed up to sponsor one child but after learning of how many grandchildren there were and of Ms. Lancaster's terminal illness, the McCords decided to sponsor the whole family, even giving money for a nice Christmas dinner. And to say Ms. Lancaster was grateful is an understatement.

"I know that more than likely this is going to be my last Christmas with them and to know that they're going to have a good Christmas is enough for me, and to know that they won't be doing without is enough for me." -Gwen Lancaster
