On December 21, 2012 Sammie "Junebug" Davis Jr. Was shot and killed in the Pio Nono Kroger parking lot by Macon Police Officer Clayton Sutton.
On January 24th 2013 two Macon police officers, 41 year old Troy Guidry and 32-year-old Jon Adam Wantz, were arrested for the alleged theft of a tractor valued at $25,000.
And earlier this month two more Macon Police officers, 26 year old Jonathan Graves and 27 year old Adolphus Jones were arrested for two unrelated instances of allegedly illegally acquiring firearms.
These incidents have one thing in common. They all involve officers from the 3rd Precinct.
The third precinct runs between Riverside Drive and Mercer and includes Ingleside and Vineville. The tractor theft occurred around Roff Avenue and the gun thefts on Courtland avenue, all within walking distance of the Pio Nono Kroger, and 3rd Precinct Headquarters.
"Its mighty interesting that within that less than a mile radius, we have a lot of criminal activity carried out by Macon Police Officers." -Anthony Harris/Community Activist
The 3rd Precinct won the Crime Reduction Award in 2012 for reducing crime by 21%
I contacted Police Spokesperson Jami Gaudet in an attempt to interview 3rd Precinct Captain Eric Woodfoord but was told no interview would be granted because the cases are all considered open.
But one person who would address the issue was Macon City Councilman Virgil Watkins. Watkins is a resident of the 3rd precinct and the chairman of the Public Safety Committee.
"It might be that Precinct 3 is normal for the whole department and that is just what's coming out right now just in concentration. But like I say in general we've been concerned about how we police I guess or oversee our police officers. How we need to do a better job of that as a city in the community vary soon." -Virgil Watkins.
