Macon boy mauled by pit bull, critically injured

NewsCentral Staff

MACON, Ga. (AP) - Macon police say a 5-year-old boy has been mauled by a dog and is hospitalized in critical condition.

Police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet says the boy was attacked by a pit bull Thursday afternoon and suffered injuries to his scalp, arm, head, face and legs.

A police report states a woman was watching her grandchildren when one of them screamed "the dog is killing my brother." The grandmother then ran outside and saw the dog dragging the child across the pavement.

The police report also claims the homeowner, Charles Gay, escorted the kids into the backyard without the grandmother's knowledge and made no effort to restrain the dog during the attack.

Authorities say the dog has been euthanized. Police say they're investigating the incident and additional details are not available.
