Macon Transit unveils new eco-friendly buses

NewsCentral Staff

The Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority is unveiling a new addition to its fleet, designed to be more environmentally friendly.

The new buses are more heavy duty and use clean diesel. Despite only four miles-per-gallon, the new buses have zero emissions.

The fleet addition is part of MTA's effort to replace its entire line of buses with environmentally-friendly vehicles. They're also a newer style and are considered "people movers" due to their capacity.

Chief Executive Officer Rick Jones said the new buses will help with larger routes that have a higher number of riders. Each bus costs about $375,000 and has a life expectancy of about 12 years.
