Macon State Biology Club Hosts Santa to Raise Money For Trips

NewsCentral Staff

A Macon State College marine biology club is raising money while getting people into the holiday spirit on Saturday.

The AquaNutz club hosted its second annual "Breakfast with Santa" at the Student Life Center at Macon State College. The fundraiser helps support trips the club takes to visit and study different water ecosystems. The college doesn't offer courses in marine biology so the AquaNutz club is the only way for students for students interested in the science to get together at Macon state.

"These kids have an opportunity to these various ecosystems, these marine ecosystems, fresh water ecosystems and experience these animals and the flora also in their native environments," Macon State assistant biology professor Dr. Thomas Sawicki said.
Club members had a goal to raise more than $500. They will be hosting another fundraiser in the spring during the Cherry Blossom Festival.
