Macon NAACP invites community to town hall meeting with U.S. Department of Justice

In response to the shooting of a reportedly unarmed black man by a white Macon police officer, the Macon branch of NAACP will hold a town hall meeting with the U.S. Department of Justice.
NAACP President Gwen Westbrooks says the topic of the meeting will be race relations with local law enforcement, and all community members are welcome to attend.
The meeting stems from the shooting of 49-year-old Sammie Davis Jr., who was shot three times in the chest by Officer Clayton Sutton back in December. The investigation into the shooting was recently completed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and is now being reviewed by the Bibb County District Attorneys Office.
Westbrooks says the NAACP, through an open records request, has requested the GBI's case file on the investigation. She says, depending on the outcome of the investigation, she will get the state ans national chapters of the NAACP involved to ensure justice.
The town hall meeting with the U.S. Department of Justice is scheduled to take place at 11 a.m., March 16th, at The Unionville Missionary Baptist Church, 3837 Houston Avenue, in the Worship and Fellowship Center.
After the meeting, NAACP Leaders say they will meet with local law enforcement.
