Macon Mayor Robert Reichert and city leaders from across the country are gathering in Washington D.C. for the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
USCM President Michael Nutter says the group will discuss many topics during the three-day meeting including President Obama's proposals to crack down on gun violence in America.
Nutter said Thursday that one thing everyone can agree on is that we want communities to be safe.
"We come from a variety of places that have different thoughts and ideas about gun ownership and gun safety and gun regulations. We must incorporate all of those thoughts and ideas in our discussions," said Nutter, a Democrat who also serves Philadelphia's mayor.
Vice President Joe Biden was among the list of speakers at the conference Thursday.
"There is a Second Amendment. The President and I support the Second Amendment and it comes with the right of law-abiding, responsible citizens to own guns. Use it for their protection as well as for recreation," said Biden.
The meeting runs through Saturday.
