Macon woman beaten with baseball bat dies in hospital

A 46-year-old Macon woman is dead after allegedly being beaten in the head with baseball bat by a neighbor, according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.
Alterese Carter was pronounced dead at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. Macon Police have arrested 49-year-old John Conover. Conover was originally charged with aggravated assault, battery, and a Superior Court Violation, but those charges are expected to be upgraded.
According to Police, an altercation occurred between Conover and the Carter's 12-year-old son. After Carter was struck, her husband was struck in the back by the suspect while attempting to protect her from further injury.
