Macon Hostage Situation Turns Out to be a Hoax

NewsCentral Staff

A phone tip to the Macon Police Department advising them of a hostage situation appears to have been a hoax.

The MPD Swat team responded to Building F of the Plant Street Apartments after receiving a phone tip that 32-year-old Samuel Edward Lawrence was hiding in a unit, possibly holding a hostage.

Upon entering the building, it was discovered that no one was inside.

Lawrence is being sought on several outstanding warrants including Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Probation Violation - Superior Court, and Probation Violation - State Court.

CID Major Charles Stone tells WGXA, "We believe the phone tip was a hoax and take the false reporting of a crime seriously. We will investigate the origin of that tip. Falsely reporting a crime is a felony and necessitates an unnecessary expenditure of manpower and resources."

The search continues for Samuel Edward Lawrence. If you have any information on his whereabouts, please call the MPD at 751-7500 or Crimestoppers at 1-877-68-CRIME.
