Macon Hostage Situation Ends Peacefully

Celeste Smith

An early morning hostage situation in South Macon ends in one arrest.

Public Information Officer Jami Gaudet of the Macon Police Department tells NewsCentral, Corted Tharpe was taken into custody by the MPD SWAT Team shortly after 7:00 a.m. on Friday. Gaudet says officers responded to the home after receiving a 911 call that a man had barricaded himself inside a home on Marion Avenue.

Gaudet says after attempting to communicate with Tharpe, officers called in the SWAT Team. The officers stormed the home after Tharpe refused to cooperate with negotiators.

Gaudet says the SWAT Team secured five hostages, including a one-year old child, inside the house and took Tharpe into custody.
