Macon Council Committee Changes Citizens Advisory Board Ordinance

NewsCentral Producer

The Macon City Council Public Safety Committee changes how the Macon Police Department handles officer complaints.

In the wake of the shooting death of Sammie Davis, Jr. by Macon Police Officer Clayton Sutton, the department's internal affairs unit has come under fire by the public and the city council.

On Monday evening, the Public Safety Committee approved a new ordinance to amend the city code, giving the citizens advisory board more power in hearing cases against officers.

The legislation must still go to the full council for a final vote.
