Lower rates approved for Georgia Power customers

NewsCentral Staff

Relief is on the way for Georgia Power customers.

On Friday, the Georgia Public Service Commission approved lower rates for Georgia Power customers starting January 1st. The company says a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity for the month will save approximately $2.60 in the summer and $1.20 in the winter.

Chairman Tim Echols said low natural gas prices are to thank for the rate reduction. Under Georgia law, Georgia Power is entitled to recover fuel costs associated with generating electricity.

Costs are passed through to ratepayers without a profit.
