Local man arrested in connection with Sandersville murder

A Sandersville man is under arrest after the city's first murder in six years.

GBI Special Agent Todd Lowery says 26-year-old Tyrone Gilmore is charged with malice murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Lowery says officers arrested Gilmore late Friday night.

The victim, 54-year-old Sammie Lee Haynes was shot at his home just after midnight Thursday morning. Police say someone shot Haynes as he answered a knock at his door. His family buried him Sunday in Woodlawn Cemetery.
