Local high school drama department gears up for regional competition with musical play

NewsCentral Staff

A local high school's drama department pays tribute to hard working Americans by showcasing them in its fall musical on Sunday.

The Houston County High School theatre department presented the one-act play "Working." The musical is based off the book by Pulitzer Prize winning author, Studs Terkel. The 31 member cast is still in school but director of the show, Bronwyn Jardin, said the play broadens their knowledge of the working world.

"They have had a greater awareness of themselves (and) of all those people out there in our society who work so hard and their song is frequently unsung,” she said. “This gives them a chance to sing their song."

The cast and crew will compete on Thursday at a regional competition against other high schools in the area.
