Local Woman Celebrates 101 years

NewsCentral Staff

A Macon woman and her family celebrate a milestone on Sunday.

More than 30 family members helped Annie Mae Jackson celebrate turning 101-years-old at her home in Macon. Last year the Georgia Department of Human Services presented Jackson with a certificate and pin to recognize 100 years of living. Five generations of children sang Jackson “Happy Birthday” and wished her good luck in years to come.

"It's like really a blessing to see her like live this long and we're very thankful for her,” great granddaughter Shakirah Pringle said. “She is a big part of our family and she really keeps the family together."

While living to be 101 is quite a feat, Jackson is still young compared to Besse Cooper of Monroe, Georgia. Cooper is the oldest living person in the world and turns 116 later in August.
