Local Veteran Will Receive Congressional Gold Medal

Community members honor a local World War II veteran today for his service to the country.

Former marine corporal,Thomas Mosley, received a standing ovation from his fellow parishioners at the New Hope Baptist Church. Mosley will be traveling to Washington D.C in two weeks to receive the congressional gold medal from President Obama. Mosley served at the segregated Montford Point camp in North Carolina during World War II. He and the other marines that served there between 1942 and 1949 will all receive the gold medal.

"This is a great honor and I surely wish that my mom and my dad were present to see this occasion plus my friends and my loved,” Mosley said.

The church presented Mosley with a certificate of recognition for his service to the country. After receiving the medal, Mosley will travel to Harrisburg, PA to visit his hometown. Mosley says next month he is heading to Philadelphia for a parade and ceremony that will honor the Montford Point marines
