Local Technical Colleges Merge

NewsCentral Staff

Two technical colleges in Middle Georgia announced on Wednesday that they will merge.

The Technical College System of Georgia unanimously approved the merger of Central Georgia Technical College in Macon and Middle Georgia Technical College in Warner Robins. The merger of both will create Georgia's second largest technical college with an enrollment of approximately 16,000 students. Both campuses will remain open, and administrators from Central Georgia Technical College said students should experience little change in their day to day college experience but will gain instructional and technical resources. Some executive positions will be lost, officials said they'll decide that through attrition.

The merger will be accomplished on July 31, 2013.
