NewsCentral Staff

A local auction group helped city and county governments liquidate surplus and seized vehicles and equipment on Saturday.

About 400 people placed their bids on appliances and vehicles, other equipment at L.W. Benton Company on Highway 49. People bid on site and online beginning at 9 a.m. Auction coordinator Ben Roberts said the event helps to boost revenue for area governments that need the revenue.

"It's a good way to buy the way the economy is, people need to liquidate property and you got other folks looking to buy property,” he said. “From the government’s standpoint, this is a way for tax payers to get a return on their original investment."

Roberts said they hold an auction this large four times a year. He expects to bring in around 100 - thousand dollars from people snatching up the great deals.
