A Jones county woman is laid to rest five days after police said she was shot and killed by a 73-year-old wheelchair bound man at a Macon gas station.

The funeral service for Linda Hunnicutt, 65, took place at Hart’s Mortuary on Saturday. As Hunnicutt's friends and family gathered inside the chapel, many of them said they are having trouble understanding the homemaker’s tragic death.

"It's just a shock to all of us just to know how quick life can end," family friend Joe Delozier said.

"I never thought you know that I could, I would lose my Aunt that way," Hunnicutt’s nephew, Scott Ward said.

Hunnicutt was shot and killed Tuesday at a Macon gas station while she was out Christmas shopping. Police said the alleged triggerman, 73-year - old wheelchair bound Frank Reeves ran into Hunnicutt's car. The two briefly exchanged words before Reeves allegedly shot her in the chest with a .38 caliber handgun.

"It's hard for me right now because I'm angry,” Hunnicutt’s sister Mary Huddleston said. “Ya, I'm really angry he did that to my sister for no reason. Senseless but no, I don't hate him."

More than 300 people filled the chapel and the halls to say goodbye. Hunnicutt’s brother Tommy Skinner brother sang two songs including “Go Rest High On That Mountain” which brought back memories of their lost loved one.

“Most people were crying of course,” Huddleston said. “The pastor read a few things that her daughter, Kim Butler, you know had wrote."

Family and friends said they will remember Hunnicutt as full of life despite suffering partial paralysis after an aneurysm at the age of 23. Despite her disability, people said it never stopped her from being caring, giving and having a positive outlook on life.

"She never ever complained about anything,” friend Sharon Cannon said. “She loved her family dearly."

"Awesome, just a wonderful sister,” Huddleston said. “Just full of life, you know, smiling."

"She had a heart of gold,” Wards said. “There were no strangers to her."

Hunnicutt is survived by her husband, two children, and five grandchildren. The family held a private burial following the funeral.
