Kody Lucas Birthday Bash and Blood Drive

The 3rd annual Kody Lucas Birthday Bash and Blood Drive was held this Saturday at Rozar Park in Perry.
To Kody, this blood drive means the world.
Kody says, "It just shows me that the community is helping my wish come true."
And for Kody, that wish is not focused on him; instead it’s focused on helping other people.
Kody says, "Really I'm just hoping that it makes a lot of people healthy and happy."
Robert Davis, or Little Man as he’s known, is six years old and has Pulmonary Artesia.
For Robert, coming out to the party lets him do two of his favorite things.
Robert says he likes to play with his friends and talk.
And the best part about this birthday bash is that it's not only helping Kody's birthday wish come true it's also collecting some much needed blood donations.
The Red Cross is currently experiencing a nationwide blood shortage.
Georgia is particularly in need of donations with 15% of the blood used here imported from neighboring states.
Ellie Williams is a family friend of Kody's and helped to organize the Birthday Bash.
She says, "One of things we hope to do with our party being an annual event is not only to encourage people to come out and help Kody celebrate his birthday, and donate blood, but get them to come and donate blood on a regular basis and not just once a year."
For now one teen’s birthday wish is making many other people’s wishes come true.
The Birthday Bash had its best turnout ever this year with 200 people signing up to give blood and collecting approximately 150 units of blood.

Ellie Williams is an amazing person. She almost single handedly put this Birthday Party together while maintaining a fulltime job. I was one of the volunteer cooks and worked from 9AM until 4PM. I would have gladly worked longer to make Kody's Dream Birthday come to pass. He is an amazing young man and we are happy to have him as an Exchange Club Member. Lets do it again next year Kody.

It was awesome. My daughter, Lacie, and I gave blood for the first time. Happy Birthday Kody!

Thanks to everyone who came out yesterday to celebrate with our family. It was an amazing turnout and an amazing day for Kody. 150 units of blood for the Red Cross. Awesome day! We are so blessed.
