Don't depend on the luck of the Irish to keep you out of jail this weekend.

State and area law enforcement agencies are gearing up to crack down on impaired drivers this St. Patrick's Day. To help combat drunk driving crashes and fatalities, the Governor's Office of Highway Safety is partnering with Macon-area law enforcement to encourage holiday revelers to have a safe and sober ride home.

More than 700 people were killed nationwide in crashes involving a drunk driver during the St. Patrick's Day holiday from 2006 to 2010.
