Houston County fires one, suspends three in Sheriff's Office

Disciplinary measures within the Houston County Sheriff's Office leaves one fired, one resigning, and three others suspended.

According to Houston County Chief Deputy Billy Rape, Officer Richard Griffin was fired Monday for conduct unbecoming an officer and falsification of reports.

Corporal Charles Gleason resigned Monday for conduct unbecoming an officer and falsification of reports. Lt. John James was suspended without pay pending termination for an incident last week involving an airsoft pellet gun fired near several inmates.

Two other detention officers were disciplined for failing to report James' actions. One suspended for three days without pay and placed on six months disciplinary probation.

The other was suspended for five days without pay and placed on a 12-month disciplinary probation.
