Hospitals Stepping Up Flu Precautions

The flu is making its presence known this year, and local health care providers are doing all they can to reduce the spread of the virus.
The medical center of central Georgia has put new rules in place at the hospital, administrators made the decision to restrict visitation based on information from the centers of disease control and prevention and the prevalence of influenza in the central Georgia region at this time.
Emergency Room doctors there say the new rules should decrease the numbers. Kalabus Punchapakeson, MD is the Director of the Emergency Room at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. He says, "Children under the age of twelve are not permitted to visit the patients this if for the safety of the community, also for the safety of the patients and the staff."
"Giving them (patients) prompt treatment when they have the signs and symptoms of flu like illness and early diagnosis that's the key," adds Dr. Ritu Kumar an Emergency Room Physician at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.
Anyone with symptoms of a cold are encouraged not to visit the hospital for their own protection as well as the protection of others.
