Some kids in the Macon area are getting a break from the holiday lull, to express their creative side.
Children from 6 to 12-years-old painted and created other types of artwork Thursday during a Holiday art camp at the Freedom Park Community Center.
The three day camp teaches kids to express themselves artistically, and gives them a chance to learn from a professional artist.
Community Center Director Clarence Thomas says many young kids don't get opportunities to express themselves and turn to violence as an output, so it's important to give them other opportunities.
"Creativity is something that is vitally important to human development, and expression of yourself creatively is something that is very important to human development, so that's what were trying to do here," Thomas said.
Thomas says the camp also gives kids the opportunity to get out of the house for a few days during winter break. The artwork will be on display at the Community Center Friday, from noon to 2 p.m.
