Historical home offers free admission for a day

NewsCentral Staff

A museum in Macon opens its doors for free to get people interested in the city's rich history.

The Hay House, a historical home on Georgia Ave., offered free admission on Saturday as part of the "Smithsonian Museum Free Day." Many museums across the country adopted the free admission policy in order to draw people to their exhibits. Hay House employees said many people took advantage of the event and learned more about the museums significance to Macon.

"We just do it to kind get the public involved at the house again,” Hay House Senior Docent Lance Sullivan said. “Normally we have just paid guided tours and things like that but we try to have a free day every so often just to get the public involved at the house and let them know what's going on in the city and with the house itself."
Hay House employees said the museum will be participating in the national event again next year.
