Hackers Access Nationwide Insurance Customer's Information
Thousands of Nationwide Insurance customers have had their personal and private information accessed illegally.
Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens was notified that the computer network belonging to Nationwide Insurance was criminally attacked, giving the criminals unauthorized access personal and private information for more than 28-thousand Georgia members and/or potential policyholders.
Nationwide has issued a statement saying they will do the following:
* Provide the Department of Insurance with evidence of written notice to the members and applicants regarding the improper disclosure of their private information.
* Create a dedicated toll-free number to answer questions from members and applicants. The Nationwide number is 800-760-1125.
* Offer affected members and applicants free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services from Equifax for at least one year.
Nationwide mailed notices to all affected individuals last Friday.
Consumers who have questions or concerns can also contact the Insurance Commissioner's office at 404-656-2070, or toll-free at 800-656-2298.
