Gyms in Middle Georgia are seeing an influx of new members on Monday as many people try to fulfill one of the top ten New Year’s resolutions.
In the last 24 hours, Body Evolution and Gorilla Cross Fit Gym in Macon has signed up five new members and expect even more by Wednesday. A Journal of Clinical Psychology study found 45 percent of Americans make a New Year’s resolution and losing weight is the number one goal. Body Evolution gym owners said January is their busiest month but they lose about 70 percent of their clients by February. However there are a couple of steps people can take to make sure they fulfill their resolution.
"If you can, get you a workout partner or buddy,” gym owner Jamie Cain said. “If it's available, join a fitness group such as boot camp or group fitness class and third, personal training is a great way to start. It gives you a good base of knowledge, gets you familiar with the equipment. "
To keep the weight off, Cain suggests people need to focus on strength and muscle building to stimulate their metabolism. Also people need to run to burn calories and eat four to five small meals throughout the day.
