Gun sales rocket after President's speech on future of firearms

NewsCentral Producer

Gun retailers in Middle Georgia say they have been extremely busy since Wednesday.

Eagle Gun Range in Macon is almost sold out of all assault weapons after President Barack Obama's announcement Wednesday to take a close look at tightening gun laws.

Owner Hamp Dowling says he has already sold out of high capacity magazine's capable of storing large amounts of ammunition.

Dowling says he's having trouble getting more products from suppliers, as they too are stockpiling guns in warehouses around the country.

"People are in a panic mode, they're listening to what our president has to say about these evil firearms, and they get a little afraid of what might could happen," Dowling said.

Dowling says many retailers are taking guns off the shelves in an attempt to create more demand and raise prices.
