Georgia State Barbeque Championship Cooks Up Some Meat

Barbeque teams from across the state put their best meats in the smoker this weekend to win some big money and titles.

More than 35 teams are competing in the seventh annual ComSouth Hambone Jam in Fort Valley on Saturday.The two day competition determines the Georgia BBQ State Champion and kicks off the Georgia Barbeque Association (GBA) cook offs. Teams submitted a blind box of ribs, pulled pork and pork loins for GBA judges to determine the best and pick a grand champion. While competitors said they're serious about their meats, many also enjoy the social aspect of the event.

"You get to come out here and hang out with friends,” 5 O'Clock Somewhere Bar B Que cooker, Brian Robinson said. “Stay up all night long and tend to a smoker and cook some good barbeque, so we really enjoy that.

The event's grand champion won $3,000 and an automatic entry to compete at the World Food Competition in Las Vegas this November.
