Ga. Labor Commissioner Candidate Asks For Recount

Celeste Smith

ATLANTA (AP) - The former Georgia House speaker is contesting the results of the Democratic primary for state labor commissioner.

Campaign manager Michael Parkerson said that longtime state lawmaker Terry Coleman requested a recount Thursday of the July 20
primary election. Coleman's opponent, Darryl Hicks, was declared the winner in the election by 622 votes.

Hicks ran on his more than 20 years experience working for the parent company of Atlanta Gas Light. Coleman is a former Georgia
House speaker.

The winning Democrat will face Republican Rep. Mark Butler in the general election in November. Democrats have held the office of
labor commissioner since it was created in 1938.
