Ga. Democrats look for voice as minority party

ATLANTA (AP) - A parade of Senate Democrats came to the microphone to blast Gov. Nathan Deal's budget proposals.
But the orchestrated exercise Monday could be more symbolic than anything else.
Democrats are the overwhelming minority in both legislative chambers. With just 60 out of 180 seat in the House and 18 out of 56 seats in the Senate, they don't have enough votes to pass their own legislation or block anything with widespread Republican support.
Steve Henson is the Senate Minority Leader, and one of the senators who says Deal's budget doesn't do enough to help solve Georgia's transportation, education and health care concerns.
Henson conceded that Democrats can't directly control legislation. But Henson says Monday's effort was a demonstration that Democrats can raise issues directly with the public.
