Defense Attorney Veronica Brinson described client & murder suspect, Frank Louis Reeves, 73, as remorseful and dealing with his new-found circumstances.

"He's antsy about what's next," said Brinson. "This is new to him, he's never been in trouble before."

Brinson would not speak about whether or not the wheelchair bound Reeves had a permit to carry the weapon used in the shooting death of 65-year-old Linda Hunnicutt.

When asked if how Reeves attained the gun, Brinson replied.

"I don't want to talk about all the details pertaining to his case or even the gun right now."

But she would say that she believes that Reeves may have been interrogated by police without an attorney present. If that is the case, due to Reeve's health history with strokes, appropriate motions will be filed pertaining to whether or not Reeves knew what he was saying or doing at the time of questioning.

"I think that's definitely as it relates to the officers ability to understand what he was saying or his ability to understand what the officers were asking," said Reeves.

Initially charged with involuntary manslaughter, Reeves' charges have been upgraded to felony murder, a crime punishable by life in prison.

"We do not want to see Mr. Reeves spend the last portion of his life in jail," said Brinson.

And is adamant her client did not commit felony murder.

"I hope that it was not communitive pressure to upgrade the charge," said Brinson. "What we are asking for at this stage is that the Macon Police Department and later the Bibb County District Attorney's Office to do a complete investigation of this case."

Brinson said it's not appropriate to determine whether or not Reeves is currently fit to stand trial. She also said she will be willing to speak to WGXA as the case progresses about whether Reeves had a permit to carry a weapon and where exactly the gun came from.
