Former Macon doctor declared fuel emergency before fatal Delaware plane crash

NewsCentral Staff

A man who previously worked at the Medical Center of Central Georgia declared a fuel emergency before he crashed his plane near Dover, Delaware on January 13th.

Doctor Clifford Turen was flying his single-engine airplane from Sandersville to Delaware when his plane crashed near Dover Air Force Base, killing him.

Investigators say Turen tried to land several times at airports in Delaware and Maryland. The NTSB says he declared a fuel emergency moments before the crash.

Since 2011, Turen was an orthopedic surgeon with Bayhealth Medical Center in Dover. Before that, he served as co-director of the Georgia Orthopaedic Trauma Institute in Macon.
