Former MPD Officer Takes Guilty Plea to Avoid Rape Trial

NewsCentral Staff

A former Macon police officer takes a plea deal to dodge a possible trial on rape.

31-year-old Chris Campbell was sentenced to five years of probation for his guilty plea of violating his oath of office.

Campbell was accused of driving a then 19-year old intoxicated woman from a nightclub to a hotel, two years ago, and raping her. He said it was consensual but the woman claimed she was unconscious.

Prosecutors dropped the rape charge in exchange for his guilty plea.

Campbell resigned shortly after the February 2011 incident came to light.
