Former HMC Employee Indicted for Spreading Hepatitis

A former hospital worker in Houston County has been indicted in New Hampshire for allegedly stealing drugs and possibly infecting more than 30 people with Hepatitis C.
Authorities say 33-year-old David Kwiatkowski stole syringes of a powerful painkiller from patients awaiting surgery.
Prosecutors say Kwiatkowski injected himself with fentanyl before refilling the used syringes with saline. Authorities say patients then received injections from the syringes, tainted with Kwiatkowski's infected blood.
Kwiatkowski started working at the hospital in April of last year, 10 months after doctors diagnosed him with the sometimes deadly hepatitis virus.
Prior to his job in New Hampshire, Kwiatkowski worked at Houston Medical Center.
Officials there say there are no known cases of hepatitis linked to Kwiatkowski. He is facing charges of fraud and product-tampering.
