NewsCentral Staff

A former guitarist for the Allman Brothers Band died at his home near Sarasota, Florida Monday morning.

The Fender Guitar site says "Dangerous" Dan Toler died from ALS, which is also known as Lou Gherigs Disease. Allman Brothers Band member Dickie Betts brought Toler in for the band's 1979 comeback album "Enlightened Rogues."

He played on two other albums before joining Gregg Allman on his gold solo album "I'm No Angel." Last march, local fans held a benefit for the ailing musician at the Cox Capital Theatre in Macon.

Dan Toler was 65-years-old.
