Macon-Bibb County Fire Stations are flying their flags at half staff this Wednesday in memory of one of their own.

"He was an excellent apparatus operator and loved what he did. He was good and committed and dedicated to fighting fire. Protecting and saving lives here in Macon and Bibb County for his career which is over ten years." -Chief Marvin Riggins\Macon Bibb County Fire Department

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones tells WGXA that 42 year old Jack Scarborough died Tuesday night of a self inflicted gunshot wound.

"His company thought a lot of him. He anchored that company well. To listen to his officers and those who have worked with him over the years, certainly he will be missed." -Chief Marvin Riggins\Macon Bibb County Fire Department]

The suicide took place in the parking lot of Macon Behavioral Center where Scarborough's wife is an employee. George Boykin, CEO of the facility says though the center was open at the time, no patients or visitors were in any danger.

Danville City Hall where Scarborough served on city council is also flying the flag at half staff today. I contacted some members of Scarborough's family in Danville, but understandably they did not wish to speak on camera.
