Two Units Heavily Damaged in Macon Apartment Fire

NewsCentral Staff

The Macon-Bibb Fire Department responded to an apartment fire late Friday night off Gray Highway.

According to Macon Police dispatchers, flames were reported at the East Ridge Apartment Complex on Crissey Drive around 10 p.m. Friday. That's between Graham Road and Old Clinton Road.

Reporters from WGXA indicate that at least two units are heavily damaged.

Marvin Riggins with the Macon-Bibb Fire Department tells WGXA when they arrived on scene, a bottom unit was fully engulfed. Tenants in other units had to be rescued, but according to Riggins, everyone made it out safe with no injuries to report.

As of Friday night, the Red Cross was expected to be on the scene to provide assistance to the families that have been displaced.

According to WGXA's Raymond Tubb, who was on the scene, many of the residents had left the complex and declined to speak with our crew.

WGXA will bring you more on this story on WGXA Weekend News Saturday night at 10 p.m. on FOX 24.
