Bleckley County Teacher Dies in Fatal Fire

NewsCentral Staff

A Bleckley County math teacher died in a Thursday morning house fire. Authorities say the home had no working smoke detector inside.

The blaze broke out Thursday morning at 147 Hudson Jones Road in Bleckley County.

Glen Allen, the spokesperson for Insurance and Fire Safety Commissioner Ralph Hudgens, tells WGXA the blaze remains under investigation but doesn't appear suspicious.

Responders said when they reached the scene, the flames had fully engulfed the home. Once inside, they found the body of Larry Libby, who taught math at Bleckley County High School and Middle Georgia College.

Libby's neighbor Laurie Jones told WGXA that “He was a good guy, he was quiet and had a personal life. He was a very good neighbor over the years. “

The victim's body has been taken to the GBI crime lab for positive identification.
