Earnhardt Jr. cleared to race at Martinsville

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been cleared to race this Sunday at Martinsville Speedway.

Earnhardt missed two races because of two concussions suffered in a six-week span. He was cleared Tuesday to resume racing by neurosurgeon Dr. Jerry Petty.

The visit to Petty came a day after Earnhardt tested a car at Gresham Speedway in Georgia to see how he felt behind the wheel.

Petty sidelined NASCAR's most popular driver when Earnhardt went to see the doctor complaining of a lingering headache following a 25-car accident on the last lap of the Oct. 7 race at Talladega. Petty diagnosed Earnhardt with a concussion, and said Earnhardt also suffered one in an Aug. 29 crash during a tire test at Kansas that went untreated.
