Downtown Macon Fight Leads to Police Assault, Arrest

A Saturday morning fight leads to the arrest of a man after he assaulted an officer.

MPD's Downtown Bike Patrol responded to a fight just after 2 a.m. Saturday on Cherry Street near MLK Jr. Blvd.

While attempting to break up the fight, an officer was punched in the eye by 23-year-old Deja Antonio Grier. The officer was treated at the emergency room.

Grier also punched another officer during the altercation.

According to Macon Police, during a search of the victim, a small bag of marijuana was recovered. Grier was charged with Aggravated Battery on a Police Officer, Aggravated Assault, Felony Obstruction and Marijuana Possession - Misdemeanor.
