Dooly County Accident Snarls I-75 Traffic

NewsCentral Staff

I-75 southbound traffic has been slammed for hours in Dooly County after a serious wreck involving a tractor trailer.

Georgia State Patrol's Tifton office tells WGXA the interstate at mile marker 117, the Pinehurst exit, was shut down and traffic re-routed after the crash around 5:15 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

An 18-wheel truck was changing lanes but didn't see a black Mustang in its blind spot. The collision sent the truck into the pillars for the bridge overpass and nearly sheared the truck's trailer in half.

The trucker was treated and released from a Crisp County hospital. The man and wife in the mustang were not hurt.

The GSP hopes to reopen the interstate for southbound travelers as soon as possible. Traffic is being re-routed using exit 117.
